POSITION SUMMARY:   Are you a problem solver? Do you have leadership experience in guiding the success of an engineering team? We have a senior position available in Santa Clara, CA, for a seasoned manager with an engineering background, responsible for the leadership and daily management of a multidiscipline mechanical engineering team consisting of 7+ engineers and technicians. He/she will be responsible for the selection, development and deployment of clean room engineering and production test solutions utilizing existing and commercially available systems where possible, mechanical product design, process development and packaging technology used in Dimatix core products with the ability to design for manufacturability. They will manage and analyze the testing and feasibility studies of mechanical products, instruments, subassemblies, and packaging for new and existing products. He/she will lead the introduction of product design and equipment changes to the manufacturing organizations and evaluate final results of mechanical design and testing to assure accomplishment of technical objectives. Finally, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for selecting, building, and evaluating an effective team of engineers that achieves and surpasses goals and objectives.

 

SCOPE

Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinates. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.

COMPLEXITY

Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.

DISCRETION

Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.

INTERACTION

Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.

SUPERVISION

Manages or coordinates activities of multiple functions. Exercises supervision in terms of costs, methods, and staffing

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Development team ownership and dynamic lead for excellence
  • Lead MEMS back-end assembly development activities, including product design, process development, and equipment engineering using off-the shelf base systems where possible
  • Project definition, creation and oversight of project teams
  • Utilize Phases & Gates development process, participate in design, test plan and gate reviews
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in device packaging assembly production line
  • Participate in new product planning process for printhead product line
  • Lead interactive multi-disciplinary group design activities
  • Coordinate response to customer issues on printhead products
  • Manage interaction with Operations, Front End Fab and Engineering during new product release
  • Personnel development of engineering team and its members.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Management of a mechanical multi-disciplined engineering group with technology development, team identity and promoting efficient teamwork
  • Supervision of junior and senior level engineers
  • Subordinate supervision of technicians
  • Participate in performance appraisals process.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated team leader of effective technology development group
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years experience managing technical professionals in a high tech product development and manufacturing environment
  • Experience designing tooling and fixturing for a production grade assembly environment
  • Experience with process development of techniques with regard to bonding and associated materials
  • Proven record in handing off solutions from development to production
  • Organizational skills to track and coordinate multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience in an ISO accredited organization following and creating ISO related processes
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to leverage and delegate responsibility when managing capable professionals
  • Experience with key mechanical engineering tools; Solidworks, Solidworks PDM,  6 sigma
  • Proven capability in complex technical problem solving, including group design activities
  • Demonstrated program management ability with a proven track record of success
  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills utilizing science & engineering education to arrive at practical solutions.
  • Ability to work across many functional departments in a collaborative and proactive manner.

 

 

DESIRED:

  • Leadership in concept design process involving multiple engineers
  • Experience following a defined phased development process
  • Experience in an electro-mechanical clean room development and production environment
  • Proficiency with engineering design and analysis tools; e.g. FEA, fluid analysis
  • Technical expertise in thermal transfer and mechanical stress analysis
  • Concrete experience designing products for regulatory compliance; CE, UL
