Job Description

Salary range for position: $160,000 - $200,000, commensurate with experience.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages development and manufacture of MEMS devices. Proposes and evaluates technical solutions to design / manufacturing issues. Coordinates departmental or cross-functional teams, focused on delivering new and/or upgraded products. Monitors the project from initiation through pilot production, including planning and directing schedules, allocating development and manufacturing resources and monitoring budget.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE: As an expert in the field, uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters. Significant barriers to entry (e.g., top management review, approval) exist at this level.

JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on issues that impact design/selling success or address future concepts, products or technologies. Creates formal networks with key decision makers and serves as external spokesperson for the organization.

SUPERVISION:  Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.  

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Coordinate departmental or cross-functional teams including R&D, sustaining and process development engineers and manufacturing operations.
  • Propose, evaluate, and implement technical solutions to fab and design problems.
  • Monitor project from initiation through pilot production, including planning and directing schedules, allocating development and manufacturing resources and monitoring budget.
  • Manage continuous improvement of devices.
  • Responsible for development of new designs and processes for the manufacturing of advanced drop-on-demand inkjet printer heads;
  • Assist in the characterization and failure analysis of new products and processes;
  • Advise the manufacturing engineering group on process issues and possible solutions; and
  • Work as a member of the R&D team to develop and evaluate new technologies and applications.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Indirect supervision of R&D, sustaining and process development engineers, manufacturing staff and others, as needed to achieve project schedules. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Physical Sciences or related field.
  • 12 years's experience with a Master's; or PhD with 8 years' experience.
  • Proven track record in managing production of MEMS device from initial concept to pilot production.
  • Strong knowledge of silicon MEMS processing.
  • Good organization and communications skills for interaction with multi-disciplinary internal groups and external vendors.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work in clean room environment.

  • Work in wafer fabrication and clean room environment, requiring clean room gowning (smock, hood, gloves, booties, etc.)
  • Exposure to stored energy hazards (electricity, compressed gases, etc.)
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • Exposure to chemicals needed for processing wafers such as alcohol and acids and to pigment, dye and UV curable inks for soaking tests.
  • Works in a facility that houses hazardous chemicals.
