The EHS Associate 2 role is a highly visible, trusted partner to Operations—present at the Gemba, quick to support, and committed to enabling safe, high-quality work. In this role, you will respond to day-to-day questions, assist with incident investigations, and risk assessments, support GEMBA walks and audits, and help teams integrate EHS into standard work. Your focus is to listen, coach, and collaborate so that every colleague can do their best work safely, every shift.

What You’ll Do

Frontline EHS Support

• Serve as the EHS point of contact on the shop floor; respond promptly to questions from process stakeholders and provide practical guidance in real time.
• Participate in targeted GEMBA walks to observe work as performed, listen to risks or pain points, and escalate hazards quickly with a people-first mindset.

Compliance and Standards

• Partner with manufacturing and support teams to align with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, biosafety, potent compound controls, and applicable cGMP expectations.
• Support readiness for internal/external audits and inspections; help manage responses and timely closure of observations and corrective actions.

Inspections, IH, and Risk Controls

• Plan and conduct workplace inspections, GEMBA observations, industrial hygiene monitoring, and exposure assessments.
• Recommend and help implement engineering/administrative controls and PPE strategies; verify effectiveness at the point of use.
• Lead cross-functional area risk assessments to identify workplace hazards, evaluate existing safeguards, recommend controls, document and track corrective actions, and verify control effectiveness.

Incident Response and Learning

• Facilitate or assist with incident and near-miss reporting, investigation, root cause analysis (e.g., 5-Whys), and CAPA development.
• Track completion and effectiveness of corrective actions; share learnings across shifts to prevent recurrence.

Training, Onboarding, and Engagement

• Develop and deliver H&S training and competency programs tailored to operations workflows; ensure training records
  meet compliance expectations.
• Deliver EHS and Sustainability New Hire Orientation; reinforce safe behaviors with simple, visual job aids and toolbox talks.
• Mentor EHS associates or colleagues; promote a speak-up culture and psychological safety.

Program Execution

• Support site EHS programs (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, Confined Space, Machine Guarding,
  Ergonomics, Waste Management).
• Execute routine audits/inspections, field verifications, and coaching tied to these programs; assist with SDS
  management, chemical inventory, and waste labeling.

Data, Metrics, and Continuous Improvement

• Establish and maintain leading and lagging H&S metrics and dashboards; analyze trends to prioritize improvements and
  drive accountability.
• Contribute to Kaizen events and standard work updates to reduce risk, strengthen compliance, and simplify safe work.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Manufacturing, QC/QA, Maintenance/Engineering, Validation, and Supply Chain to integrate H&S into
  operational planning, shutdown/turnarounds, and daily tier meetings.
• Communicate clearly across shifts; ensure continuity of EHS actions and status.
• Perform other duties, as assigned, with a service-oriented and continuous improvement mindset.

• Ability to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and other design documentation.
• Ability to interpret regulations and transpose into functional program requirements and documentation

Basic Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational, Industrial Health and Wellness, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, or related field and 2 years of experience in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment; or
• Master’s degree with minimal or no prior experience
• Prior experience of EHS program development and implementation

Preferred Requirements / Certifications

• Working knowledge of OSHA fundamentals.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts (GEMBA, 5S) and incident investigation methods.
• Comfortable reading and applying SDS, safe work procedures, and standard work.
• Prior experience in greenfield operations, advanced manufacturing, or start-up of new facilities
• Biopharmaceutical, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient, Finished drug product or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) experience
• OSHA 10\30
• HAZWOPER 40 Hour
• NIMS 300 (Incident Supervisor)

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program. 
• Ability to discern audible cues. 
• Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc. 
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.  60 minutes
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Up to 60 minutes
• Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include writs, hands, and/or fingers. 
• Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18” to 60” in height, and use twisting motions
• Will work in warm/cold environments  Support activities in indoor/outdoor environments
• Will work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. 
• Will work in heights greater than 4 feet
