Position Overview

FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Scientist with a background in Immunology or Intestinal Cell Biology to join our Applications Team. This group drives the identification, development, and deployment of technical assay solutions leveraging iPSC-derived cell types for life science research. The role emphasizes complex in vitro models and novel approach methodologies (NAMs). The ideal candidate will independently design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data, establish robust protocols, and translate scientific insights into commercially viable solutions.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions

  1. Design, develop, and optimize cell-based assays to assess the functional activity or performance of iPSC-derived cell types with minimal oversight.
  2. Generate and present high-quality data and visual content to support sales enablement and product marketing initiatives for iCell products.
  3. Maintain detailed and accurate experimental records, including lab notebooks, technical protocols, and comprehensive reports.
  4. Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, sales, and product teams to troubleshoot existing assays and develop enhanced assay content.
  5. Evaluate new technologies and instrumentation for internal application or potential outsourcing partnerships.
  6. Demonstrate expert knowledge and judgment in experimental techniques, analyses, principles, and concepts in support of project objectives and obtaining results.
  7. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support additional projects as assigned.
  8. Review and stay informed on research performed in the field by reading scientific journals, attending webinars, classes, and/or conferences where appropriate.
  9. Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific discipline, related engineering field or other closely related field plus at least three (3) years of related experience; or a Master’s degree in a comparable field plus at least seven (7) years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree in a comparable field plus at least ten (10) years of related experience.
  • Hands-on experience in stem cell research or assay development; prior industry experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in routine mammalian cell culture techniques; experience with iPSC-derived cells strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and independence with standard laboratory practices, cell culture, flow cytometry, stem cell culture, and/or molecular biology methods. Stem cell culture experience or experience with our differentiated cell product line is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with advanced culture systems such as 3D cell culture, organ-on-a-chip platforms, or complex co-culture models is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct experiments, analyze data, and develop new methodologies with intellectual curiosity and initiative.
  • Proficient in written and oral communication, as well as the ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Flexibility to change project objectives quickly and willingly.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working under minimal supervision and collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Some evening and/or weekend work is required; willingness to travel as needed.
  • Able to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work in laboratory hood for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e., chemicals, electrical equipment, and human tissue) without endangering oneself or others. Training will be required.
  • Ability to work on-site in a laboratory setting for extended periods and adhere to PPE requirements. Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
