Position Overview

The Sr Manager, Value Stream for VSI has broad responsibility and leadership for overall optimization of the entire value stream including but not limited to quality, cost, delivery and service for all VSI products.   This function is imbedded in operations at the intersection among Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality and Service teams.   Success depends upon exceptional organizational development around the principles of lean manufacturing. The Value Stream leader is integral to the propagation of a lean culture and thus a highly visible role with a great deal of autonomy.   You will have Strong technical knowledge to interface with engineering, sales, supply chain, service and other business partners.   This individual manages, direct labor in manufacturing, domestic service team members and project oversight for various QVS (Quality, Value and Sustaining) related projects. Experienced managers will not only have employee management experience but also have led multiple Kaizen events and/or large scale projects across multiple departments/job functions both as a team and individual contributor with significant subject matter expertise in the principles of Lean and Six Sigma.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Provide project leadership and direction for manufacturing, service, cross-functional engineering and operations teams to execute a Lean/Six-Sigma Strategy for improvement and meet the mission objectives for QVS (Quality, Value, Sustaining).
  • Increase value-add in manufacturing and service operations by simplifying, reducing or eliminating wasteful practices, and reducing variation throughout the value stream.
  • Improve the quality of VSI products through their life-cycle, coordinating corrective actions for obsolescence while strategically reducing COGS (Cost of Goods Sold).
  • Drive manufacturing teams to meet the forecasted production build plans and support on-time delivery (OTD) for customer orders
  • Oversee all domestic VSI service operations and provide support as needed for the global service teams.
  • Supports cost, quality and delivery objectives in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Apply Value Stream Maps, Kanban, 5S, and other tools to maintain flow and visualize waste.
  • Oversees direct labor, engineers and service teams
  • Lead interfacing with engineering, suppliers, sales and other business partners

Knowledge/Experience:

  • BS Degree in Engineering (i.e. Industrial Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer) or related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years managing manufacturing direct labor and manufacturing professionals including Manufacturing, Quality or Sustaining Engineers.
  • Preferred 8-10 years engineering experience.
  • Preferred 7-9 years experience applying Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Preferred 3-5 years in a customer facing and/or service operations role coordinating installation and field support activities
  • Preferred lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent body of knowledge.
  • Experience in standardized problem solving approached that may include A3, DMIAC, and 8-Step.
  • Experience with successful and long lasting results from Kaizen continuous improvement events.
  • Experience in creating, coordinating and implementing engineering and business process changes.
  • Knowledgeable in basic electromechanical assembly processes and part fabrication methods such as machining, PCB assembly, soldering, sheet metal, fasteners, etc.
  • Understands quality plans that may involve Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Understands manufacturing quality control processes including specifications, inspection, supplier control, production control and quality control processes
  • Understands ISO, GMP regulatory requirements.
  • Understands Oracle and DataSweep or other electronic device history record system.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong personal leadership to be self directed and accountable to achieving business results
  • Effective working problems to root cause via troubleshooting, experimentation, and general failure analysis using both in-house and contract resources
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain status of numerous concurrent improvement projects.
  • Proven ability to learn and apply modern production and material methodologies that may include Six Sigma, SPC, Kanban, 5S, Value Stream mapping, Design of Experiments, process capability, gauge R&R, hypothesis tests, SPC and other means to improve and control processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Agile configuration product management software
  • Proficient in Oracle EBS software
  • Advanced Excel skills while proficient with all other MS office products.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $110,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr depending on experience (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
