Position Overview

The Director, State Government Affairs serves as a liaison and lobbyist for the state and local governments, developing and maintaining positive working relationships and communications with state policymakers and related staff on Fujifilm’s core business areas.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Identify, monitor, and analyze state legislation and relevant state policy that is critical in life sciences, domestic manufacturing, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, electronic materials, imaging, medical device and general healthcare issues.
  • Support the government relations goals by lobbying, building coalitions, and expanding relationships with key decision-makers, policymakers, governors, and related staff.
  • Participate in the development of policy positions, strategies, and execution of tactics in support of members’ state legislative and regulatory activity.
  • Advise and inform state level officials and other key stakeholders of policy positions and issues.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with relevant partner organizations, state trade associations and staff.
  • Conduct research, develop analysis and coordinate materials for use in public policy outreach and communications.
  • Manage the preparation, forecasting, monitoring, and tracking of the relevant aspects of the State Government Affairs & Public Policy budget.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues at all subsidiary companies.
  • Advise, manage, and inform on relative incentive agreements in states that Fujifilm is expanding or has active state and local incentive agreements.
  • Identify critical state policy goals for all subsidiary companies to track and engage in

Required Skills/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 15 years of lobbying and government affairs experience at the state level.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in lobbying in the pharmaceutical field at the state level required.
  • Experience of managing at least 15 states and developing policy priorities and engagement plans for each for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in management of external consultants to shape policy goals.
  • Strong political acumen and an understanding of the legislative process, campaigns, and/or public relations.
  • Contacts and relationships with state legislatures, governors, and local policymakers.
  • Ability to travel to required states 30-40%

  • $156,483 to $219,076 depending on experience
