Position Description

 

We are hiring an Associate Scientist. The Associate Scientist will perform fermentation protocol while integrating and interpreting fermentation results among shake flask, lab-scale, pilot-scale and commercial-scale fermentation systems. 

 

This is a junior level position.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a variety of fermentation protocols using shake flask, lab-scale, and pilot-scale and
    commercial-scale fermentation systems, under the supervision of lead scientist, with detailed written instructions.
  • Maintain and record data clearly and precisely
  • Generate and complete batch records and compliance documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Conduct all work in strict compliance with all applicable safety requirements, containment
    requirements, and standard operating practices (SOPs)
  • Perform calibration, minor maintenance work and mechanical upkeep
  • Maintain the inventory of consumables and order as required
  • Troubleshoot issues in real-time. Notify supervisor and coordinate with additional personnel as needed.
  • Basic knowledge to run SDS-PAGE and quantitation of protein.
  • Develop and optimize fermentation protocols for new products
  • Collaborate in design and execution of experiments
  • Present new ideas and experimental results to management and other departments
  • Operate independently and manage time across multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Formulation of media and buffers
  • Install, qualify, and validate relevant equipment

Required Skills/Education:

  • B.S. in Biological or Chemical Science plus relevant work experience
  • One year in industry
  • Understanding of basic laboratory procedures
  • Knowledge of E. coli protein development and optimization
  • Knowledge of shakers, fermenters from 5 – 100-liter scale
  • Knowledge of commonly used experimental/research concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task, attentive to details, and working within a compliance driven department
  • Ability to work as a team player with a positive attitude
  • General knowledge of computer systems and productivity software
  • Aseptic Technique experience is preferred
  • Bioreactor operation and upkeep
  • Ability to perform dimensional analysis calculations (concentration, dilution, recipe scale-up/down)
  • Ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
