Utility Operator 2 will operate, maintain, and repair black and clean utility systems. This position will also be responsible for monitoring mechanical and electrical equipment, power distribution, chilled water, process gas, domestic and de-ionized water, water for injection (WFI), clean steam generator and distribution, plant steam boilers, compressed air, fire alarm, security, remote building equipment monitoring, sanitary, acid waste, and storm drain systems. This role will also be responsible for daily monitoring of tank farm, supporting lab admin building, building management system (BMS) and critical alarm response.

What You’ll Do
• Operates and monitors utility systems, including compressed gases, cooling towers, plant steam, chillers, boilers, HVAC, fire alarm system, and utilities tank farm
• Monitors equipment performance, conducts routine maintenance, troubleshoots issues, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards
• Assists with analyzing data to identify areas of improvement, to implement energy saving measures, and to optimize utility usage to minimize costs and environmental impact
• Performs basic and complex preventive maintenance on utility equipment
• Responds to equipment failures promptly
• Responds to emergency conditions, such as power outages, fire alarms, and critical equipment alarms
• Operates and monitors site building management system (BMS) and Delta V
• Performs and monitors chemical levels of boiler feed water, cooling tower water, and plant steam and adjusts water chemistry to maintain pre-established parameters
• Monitors and operates the site’s waste neutralization system
• Monitors and maintains compressed gas inventory
• Ensures utility systems and operations comply with relevant regulation standards and guidelines
• Maintains accurate records and implements corrective actions to address non-compliance issues
• Participates in cross-department meetings and provides technical expertise, as directed
• Assists colleagues with the implementation of process improvements under the direction of senior technician or supervisor
• Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize utility operations, cost reductions, and efficiency enhancements
• Manages the inventory of spare parts and equipment
• Provides guidance and mentors operators
• Provides input for the development of safety procedures
• Supports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as needed
• Other duties, as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Ability to operate hand and power tools
• Knowledge of control systems
• Effective communication, both written and oral
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies or other continuous improvement techniques
• Must be able to work shifts
Required Skills
• High School Diploma/GED
• 4 years of experience in Utility Operations or a related field
Preferred Skills
• Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, applied Engineering, or Industrial Technology or above
• 5+ years of experience in Utility Operations, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, or Industrial environment, or another highly regulated industry
• Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or other data tracking software experience
• Experience using Microsoft Office
