Position Overview

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

The primary purpose of this position is to manufacture purified dyes, ink formulations, and flush solutions per batch process logs.

 

This includes material handling, operating pumps, Reverse Osmosis units, monitoring flows, filtering, and packaging to customer requirements.

 

Production operators are responsible for their own work habits and safety performance. This position requires accurate transfer of information, documentation of all process steps, and reporting of abnormal occurrences. The Production Operator accomplishes these goals while striving to maintain an atmosphere of involvement, continuous improvement, EHS, and right-first-time manufacture within the operations team.

 

The Production Operator accomplishes these tasks with direct interaction with co-workers, lab personnel, and production supervision. This position reports to the Lead Operator.

 

The Production Operator will work rotating shifts to support 24/5 manufacturing, Monday-Friday. In addition to the listed responsibilities, the position may be required to perform other duties upon request from management.

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Summary of Primary Duties:

  • The production operator has direct, front-line responsibility in terms of manufacturing multiple purified dyes, inks, and flush solutions in a manner, which is efficient, safe, and environmentally sound and meets all quality requirements.
  • Manufacture with a focus on right-first-time manufacture.
  • Ensure that company EHS standards are met through participation in training sessions, following safety rules, conforming to PPE requirements, and informing supervision of safety related observations.
  • Through training, the incumbent will obtain a full understanding of all the process equipment operation along with the knowledge to identify and troubleshoot abnormal situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations as required by the process log for addition of additives and conversions to standard product strengths.
  • Report all abnormal occurrences and environmental problems to supervision immediately. Must have a full understanding of what action to take in emergencies.
  • Maintain area standards in all work areas and perform end-of-shift inspection, implementing corrective actions through six sigma practices.
  • Manufacture with GMP guidelines where required.
  • Reduce potential for product losses through closer monitoring of batch operations, elimination of operator error, and providing suggestions to enhance dye containment.
  • Communicate effectively by providing operator comments to batch processes, performing all database entries in a timely manner, and ensuring accurate handover of information at shift change.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives through a team approach. Bring forward suggestions to improve conditions and optimize operating systems.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Essential:

  • A high school degree with 1-3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability and desire to learn new processes and operate them independently and correctly
  • Strong understanding of EHS requirements associated with chemical manufacturing
  • Experience using Standard Work Processes along with Operational Discipline Principles
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and actions
  • Knowledge of basic math and arithmetic
  • Basic knowledge of computers, data entry, and word processing

 

Desired:    

  • Experience in a batch chemical plant setting
  • Knowledge of piping, pumps, filtration, and other fluid handling components would result in general integration with the job requirements
  • Knowledge in operating and monitoring the following unit operations (Ion exchange, Reverse Osmosis, Filtration, Standardization), would be a close fit and result in general integration with this facilities job requirements

 

PROBLEM SOLVING

 

  • The incumbent is responsible for resolving and troubleshooting several equipment and process issues that are both product (i.e. adherence to manufacturing specifications) and unit operations (i.e. Ion Exchange performance) related.
  • The production operator must possess a high degree of awareness to pro-actively address issues to avoid potentially costly errors in terms of product loss, environmental release, and quality failures.
