Position Overview

As the Manager, Software Quality Assurance Test for Bothell staff, you are responsible for ensuring software quality within complex medical device products. You will review the development and execution of software test plans by way of verification procedures based upon software and system specifications. The Software Quality Assurance Test Manager will be responsible for planning, facilitating, tracking and performing the test execution activities within the Software Development Team. A strong background in software quality testing within Scrum/Agile teams is required. This position requires the successful candidate to be self-motivated, to work proactively with additional Software Managers, to guide and coach the technical contributions of peer Software QA Testers.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable.
  • Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of the overall system.
  • Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects to determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably, according to documented requirements and established standards, under both normal and abnormal conditions.
  • Recommend design improvements, corrections, and testing hooks to engineers throughout the development process.
  • Maintain effective communication with the project software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes.
  • Review and Facilitate Software QA Testers in executing their test plans, unblocking associated issues, creating test reports to describe program evaluation/testing/correction, and as time permits also contribute efforts to these same individual contributor work items.
  • Provide feedback to the Software Process & Quality Manager to help inform on the state of the team, raise opportunities for improvement, and exchange ideas on how to best apply Tester skills and availabilities among all the Software department teams/initiatives.
  • Monitor program performance after implementation to prevent reoccurrence of program operating problems and ensure efficiency of operation.
  • Create test workflows using internal tools to facilitate data gathering and test method execution
  • Manage and execute in-sprint Smoke, Integration and Regression tests
  • Propose and use new/existing tools for reaching clear-box testing concepts to save development/test time and improve functional test coverage.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior test peers for assigned features and projects.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical Certification; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Software testing and quality control.
  • Experience with testing complex UI sequences in a native desktop or mobile application, using a mix of hands-on manual testing and development instrumentation tools
  • Experience running tools and evaluating responses in a command line, bash shell, or Powershell terminal.
  • Experience serving as QA subject matter expert for multiple feature areas.
  • Experience providing mentorship to new-arriving test staff.
  • Experience distributing, evaluating and collecting shared work items in a team talent pool.
  • Experience with test scripts using a framework written in Ruby, Python, or other object-oriented runtime script, or in any interpreted programming language such as Java or C#.
  • Familiarity with software development and traceability in a regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with medical regulations like IEC 62304.
  • Familiarity with scripting; executing test scripts and evaluating results for investigation.

  • High level of initiative with ability to self-manage, seeking effective solutions first and then asking for aid as needed on behalf of self and others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as part of a team; ability to coach and motivate fellow peers and counterparts to do their best work.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs with or without accommodations.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $105,000.00 - $150,000.00/yr. depending on experience (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
