Job Description

The Director of Operations Excellence will be a key influencer in Fujifilm Biotechnologies across several areas of the business. The role will be responsible for identifying, planning, and driving improvements across select sites in the business. These improvements will include, but not be limited to, productivity increases, costs savings, revenue increases, and systemic process changes.

 

The ideal candidate will have deep experience working across all levels of an organization to gain alignment to their vision, and in working in a matrixed fashion to execute the plans they jointly develop with stakeholders. The role requires technical expertise (conceptual, analytical, and quantitative problem solving), strong stakeholder management, and an ability to be efficient in actions, communications, and organization.

 

This role has no direct or in-direct reports.

 

Key Principles

  • Site-level problem-solving: works with multiple sites and functions simultaneously to collect and analyze data, communicate findings, align on potential changes aimed at increasing enterprise value, lead execution of those changes, and share overall results across the business.
  • The role will focus on commercial, manufacturing, supply chain, digital, quality, and other functional needs that have the potential to make FB more competitive and cost effective.
  • Team mentoring: coaches and leads site teams through new ways of working in OpsExc to build and sustain an analytical approach to continuous improvement.
  • Leads through example by collaborating with site teams to identify opportunities and supports data analysis to verify, quantify, and communicate potential opportunities across the network.
  • Works with more junior members of the team to build their skills and capabilities to do the same.
  • Project management: works with sites and/or functions to manage deliverables and/or execution of changes identified and aligned, focusing on multiple projects at once. Prepares communications with site/functional teams to share status, successes, and support needed.  
  • Limited to representing FB in industry forums, participating in company workshops, interfacing with customers.
  • Directly supports multiple stakeholders across FB, including but not limited to: SVP OpsExc, Site General Managers, Commercial leaders, Strategy function leads, SLT members, and other functional leads. The role will help create and refine continuous improvement workflows across FB, for new initiatives and existing efforts to improve FB’s competitive stance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or Science. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Experience in a top management consultancy working in international firms with a focus on operations and/or commercial transformations.
  • Exposure to C-suite through shopfloor is necessary.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, outstanding ability to build relationships/rapport with all levels, and a “get it done” mindset.
  • 10+ years progressive experience with 5 years in leadership

Impact & Decision Making

  • The role will be expected to deliver several million USD in impact, in revenue and/or productivity improvements. These improvements will be at site and/or enterprise levels, and could include major projects aimed at simplifying FB’s operations, significant expansions, and/or new offerings.
  • Work products will be reviewed cross-functionally and aligned with senior leaders to mitigate risk of erroneous work. Stakeholders – including SVP of OpsExc – will be closely engaged with this individual to ensure work products meet expectations and are realistic (e.g., in the case of recommendations). Stakeholders for this role will include SLTs of all sites.
  • Requires the ability to prioritize and make decisions independently to resolve prioritization conflicts and manage tasks effectively. Requires a sound understanding of the CDMO business and implications of decisions/recommendations.
  • Ensures hypotheses are well-tested before identifying path(s) forward.
  • Exercises sound judgment in handling confidential information and making recommendations to optimize the business. Confidentiality: Handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions and tasks.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Superb problem-solving skills, demonstrated through 5+ years of work experience in a global organization solving complex problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including exceptional email etiquette.
  • Proficiency in using office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, calendar management software, and email platforms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential matters.
  • Adaptability and willingness to adjust tasks in response to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to travel 50%+ of time, with no country travel restriction in NA, UK, EU, and Japan
