Position Overview

As the Buyer, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of purchasing components from suppliers in order to assure timely delivery of parts to support production needs. In addition, the Buyer is the communication and logistical link between Planning, Operations, and the Supply Base. The Buyer is also accountable for managing supplier accounts with significant spend. In addition, the Buyer is expected to compile, interpret and analyze complex data in supporting commodity management team with supplier contracts.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Manages complex supplier accounts, requiring knowledge of commodity, supply base, and program.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers; Communicate common supplier problems with Leadership, Commodity Management and other Buyers
  • Own and drive an inventory action plan to maintain proper inventory levels and achieve turns goals of key production components
  • Primary owner for SonoSite purchasing and managing orders through to delivery; Assure orders are shipped on a timely basis to support value stream
  • Develops assurance of supply where distributors and suppliers need support; Use shortage report to communicate current delivery information from suppliers
  • Compile, interpret and analyze complex data in supporting commodity management team with supplier contracts
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies on a timely basis
  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient processes within the Oracle business s/w environment.
  • Manage supplier quality through the Non-Conformance Report (NCR)/Reject Process; Minimize production impact by ensuring discrepant materials are addressed with Supplier Quality and Suppliers
  • Source and procure production material using Oracle MRP system.
  • Source and procure non-production materials needed for product development.
  • Work closely with cross-functional business partners such as Commodity Management, Supplier Quality, Value Stream, Warehouse Department, etc.
  • Any other task assigned by management
  • Primary owner for SonoSite purchasing and managing orders through to delivery
  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient processes within the Oracle business s/w environment.
  • Source and procure non-production materials needed for product development.
  • Responsible and accountable for carrying out the requirements of the company's quality system.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelors or a combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years purchasing experience.
  • Knowledge of FDA and other regulatory compliance issues.
  • Experience in procurement of electro-mechanical assembly related material: PCBs, ASICs, electrical components, connectors, etc.  Also, experience with procurement of a wide range of facility equipment, MRO items, custom and off-the-shelf devices including custom machined parts and tooling, injection molded plastics, and cable assemblies
  • Experience with MRP systems and the interactions with BOMs and configuration management issues.
  • Experience with Oracle.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, planning and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, internet, etc.).
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to lift 25lbs with or without accomodations

Salary and Benefits:

  • $30.00/hr. - $37.00/hr. depending on experience (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).
