The Role

 

The Senior Buyer position works fulltime onsite at our Pueblo, CO. facility and supports both Colorado and California operations and plant management. This includes all purchasing needs for Chemicals, Packaging and Filter, MRO Equipment, and Services / Supplies.

 

This role is responsible for supply assurance which results in the best overall value while continuing to ensure quality products and services are received. The Senior Buyer supports all departments in problem-solving, cost containment and effective communications, both internally and externally. Works as a key member of a high-performance team.

Job Description

 

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Act as the principal line of communication between suppliers, planning, and manufacturing.
  • Coordinates supplier forecasts, meetings, mitigate price increases and negotiates cost savings.
  • Proactively assesses the risk of supply interruption situations, puts in place remedial action and corrective measures. Manages emergency supply chain situations.
  • Owns and/or supports supplier problem solving, responsiveness, strategies to support production and negotiates returns.
  • Administers supply ratings and meets with vendor to design plan to achieve 100%
  • Prepares and presents procurement updates at Strategic Business Unit reviews (SBU) and systems/metrics at customer audits.
  • Analyze requisitions and prepare product specifications, bids, and agreements
  • Solicit competitive proposals, evaluates and prepares sourcing recommendations.
  • Administer POs for Chemicals, Packaging and Filter, MRO Equipment, and Services / Supplies and support problem-solving for pending invoices
  • Identify procurement savings opportunities; executes where appropriate or report them to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Act as functional lead within Raw Material Sub Categories and drive supplier relationship management to ensure a reliable supply.
  • Monitor procured material and equipment for changes in delivery schedules and expedite when necessary.
  • Maintain Master Data, New Vendor set up, purchasing approved Supplier lists and maintain purchasing filings.
  • Own and maintain Procurement, lead-times, info records, latest spec revisions, price changes, etc.
  • Conduct spend analysis, data mining, and data cleansing.
  • Adhere to site Purchasing policies, procedures and changes to ensure accuracy.
  • Administers supplier specs, agreements, code of conduct, supplier diversity inquiries, receiving requirements, and supports similar initiatives.
  • Maintain Contractor Qualifications and insurance liabilities and maintains files
  • Works with other departments and Shared Services Group to ensure compliance with national supply agreements and leveraging to obtain the best prices, quality, service, and delivery.
  • Place, track and update orders, and delivery commitments through the NPR process. Ensures adequate supply in place for production ramp-up of new products and into Production.
  • Support R&D Product Development sampling, tracking, and availability.
  • Supports site raw material reviews, highlights supplier issues and recommends plans to resolve.
  • Supports 3rd party vertically integrated suppliers to ensure supply and increase process efficiencies.
  • Verify that Capital Appropriation Requests (CAR) are in place to execute purchase orders.
  • Escalates issues to the Purchasing Manager and engages others as needed.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in business management, supply chain management and/or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of Buyer level experience required.
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures and approaches, price negotiations and supplier relationships in the chemical industry a plus.
  • Strong SAP required
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills and independent ability to solve problems.
  • Strong time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set deadlines and work well with others required.
  • Teamwork, integrity, and accuracy of work required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and action driven; ability to work independently and efficiently on various assignments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
