The Role

 

The Senior Raw Materials Engineer ensures that the chemical manufacturing process operates efficiently and safely by managing the sourcing, testing, and quality assurance of raw materials.

 

This position involves strategic supplier selection, rigorous quality control, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize material performance, reduce costs, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job Description

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Work with suppliers to drive supplier quality performance, ensuring raw materials meet manufacturing requirements for quality, cost-effectiveness, and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with Business Units, Quality, and Operations teams to develop and implement supplier quality improvement strategies.
  • Analyze and rationalize product and supplier specifications to establish efficient, cost-effective material requirements.
  • Own and resolve all quality issues associated with assigned suppliers, ensuring effective communication of material-related concerns to key stakeholders.
  • Identify and coordinate with cross-functional teams to plan, qualify, and implement necessary supplier changes and qualifications (PCNs).
  • Assess supplier process capability and conduct trend analysis in relation to new product development and initial supplier selection.
  • Work with suppliers to develop robust root cause analysis, corrective action plans, and containment strategies for on-time implementation of quality improvements.
  • Support, develop, and execute an annual supplier audit schedule to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the review and disposition of supplier-related nonconforming material reports.
  • Provide structured training in key areas such as management of change (MOC) and ship-to-control processes.
  • Support extended-hour meetings with global suppliers as needed, participating in cross-site internal alignment discussions.
  • Collaborate with Quality Managers to align customer requirements and drive supplier quality improvements.
  • Serve as a supplier quality assurance resource, leading supplier problem-solving efforts and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain consistent supplier metrics, including process capability, control charts, and measurement systems for monitoring effectiveness.
  • Lead regular Supplier Quality Meetings and present updates at strategic business reviews.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Master’s degree preferred.
  • 6-8+ years of related chemical or equivalent manufacturing related experience, of which 3+ years should be in a quality engineering function working with Photopolymer materials. Semiconductor industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills; excellent written and verbal communication; proficiency with industry-standard software (e.g., SAP, MS Office, statistical analysis tools).
  • Must be able to travel; travel requirements may be 30% including visits to other manufacturing, supplier, and customer sites. Includes overseas travel.
