    Job Summary:

     

    This is a professional, non-supervisory position which manages the risks, costs and processes associated with international and domestic transportation and import/export compliance.  The Import/Export Coordinator is responsible for supporting the cross border movement of commodities and other products in a compliant and efficient manner.

     

    Responsible for providing clerical support to the traffic function for an organization. Responsible for all aspects of logging orders, routing, shipping, and tracking of outbound orders. Contacts transporters for freight pick-up and ensures that cargo is routed appropriately. Prepares and verifies relative documents like bills of lading.

     

     

    Essential Job Functions:

     

    • Serve as point of contact for import/export and transportation-related questions from internal and external customers, carriers and brokers, Customs and other government agencies including FDA and C-TPAT for shipment clearance.
    • Communicate regularly with key stakeholders and customers on latest status of orders
    • Identify, develop, and implement import/export, shipping and distribution process improvements, and document and maintain related published procedures.
    • Monitors import/export compliance to policy/procedures such as classification, valuation and country of origin determination
    • Manage transportation/logistics/broker activities. Work with Customs Broker to ensure flawless import execution
    • Request freight quotes as necessary.
    • Assist with exceptions delaying freight in transit. Work with brokers and forwarders to help resolve import and export delays.
    • Audit freight, broker and forwarder invoices and supporting document (CF7501, EEI,etc.) for accuracy.
    • Manage and issue documentation for international export freight including Letters of Credit.
    • Assist internal teams with documentation for international out-bound shipments.
    • Determination of Harmonized Tariff Schedule codes for international import shipments and Schedule B, ECCN and/or USML codes for international export shipments. Maintain and update import/export database and communicate internally and externally as applicable
    • Submission of EEI filings as necessary.  Monitor/Audit EEI filing to ensure compliance.
    • Responsible and accountable for carrying out the requirements of the company’s quality system.
    • Support shipping activities during peak period, emergencies, or to meet unusual requirements 

     

    Knowledge and Experience:

     

    • 5 years of transportation-related experience, preferably in Operations, Logistics or International Trade Execution
    • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications, and familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle
    • HAZMAT certification, DOT and IATA preferred
    • Working knowledge of Incoterms
    • Working knowledge of import and export requirements
    • Experience working parcel carriers and air/ground forwarders from rate negotiations through delivery
    • Familiar with regulatory guidelines included in 49 CFR, 19 CFR, BIS, EAR, HTS, etc.
    • High School Education Minimum, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Knowledge of planning and supply chain process
    • Knowledge of logistical services operations and Free Trade Agreements
    • Knowledge of the organization of Business Units and production process
    • Knowledge of the national and international transport market (sea and land of the various types and air)
    • Knowledge of customs, FDA, and border crossing requirements
    • Experience working with carriers, Freight Forwarders and shipping lines
    • Knowledge of customs export requirements
    • Knowledge of Oracle EBS (preferred)

    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced/changing environment
    • Detail oriented, effective analytical, planning and organizational skills
    • Ability to independently find solutions to complex logistics problems with limited supervision
    • Effective oral and written skills
    • Ability to speak/write clearly, concisely and articulately, and present to a varied audience
    • Ability to prioritize work and handle numerous tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment
    • Ability to make independent decisions, assume responsibility and exercise good judgment
    • Willing to travel up to 10%, some international
    • Team player, willing to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed
