Position Overview

The Manager, Engineering Services, reporting to the VP of Engineering and Asset Development, will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Engineering Services group, including developing specifications for new equipment; reliability engineering; support for new projects such as expansions and construction or system modification, for both GMP and PD facilities.

Job Description

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Responsible for taking a lead role in specification and procurement process for bio-technology and critical utility equipment, both Upstream and Downstream and to ensure equipment is compatible with the overall vision of the facility 
  • Responsible for training and developing subordinate engineers in engineering processes in a GMP compliant manner.    
  • Assist in troubleshooting and with process improvements and recommendations and coordination with Quality Assurance and Manufacturing for change controls on GMP equipment.   
  • Provides support for other utility and MCR support systems, including environmental control equipment, monitoring systems, and analytical laboratory equipment.  
  • Able to work with operators and technicians as well as research scientists and equipment vendors and engineers. 
  • All other duties as may be assigned. 

 

Required Skills & Abilities: 

  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.  Must be able to write and edit equipment specifications, User Requirements Specifications, operating procedures for new equipment, as well as draft and edit preventative maintenance procedures for technical equipment as needed. 
  • Desire to work in a fast paced, state of the art, alternately research and customized manufacturing facility. 
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively without constant supervision. 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and experience applying these skills to resolve technical problems on complex bio-technology equipment.​ 
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project). 
  • Experience in computerized instrumentation, micro-processor controlled operations, and micro measurement equipment. 
  • Able to assist in setting up departmental budgets, estimating and tracking department expenditures, establishing cost tracking systems to forecast and track extra-departmental expenses. 
  • Experience in an FDA regulated facility and equipment maintenance to include clean utilities, such as pure water systems, upstream and/ or downstream equipment. 
  • Strong leadership abilities.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Be exposed to wet or humid conditions. 
  • May be On-Call (nights, weekends, and holidays) for maintenance issues in rotation with other technicians. 
  • Be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. 
  • Be exposed to noisy environments. 
  • Attendance is mandatory. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors Degree preferably in Engineering such as Electrical, Chemical or Biomedical with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in engineering and maintenance in an FDA regulated facility, with at least three (3) of those years in a direct leadership role.    

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Manufacturing experience in a bio-pharm environment.   
  • Experience in process improvements, reliability engineering, and CAPAs in a Bio-Pharma facility.
