Position Overview

The Intern (Drug Substance Manufacturing (DSM) Support and Deviations Management) is part of the DSM team tasked with preparing for initial Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) operations for the first DSM building and providing additional system and equipment support for the second DSM building.  As part of the DSM team, the Intern gains hands-on experience with production schedule planning and execution, process equipment, manufacturing materials, training curriculum management and execution, and manufacturing process support.

 

Start Date: This internship is set to begin in May 2025 for an 11-week duration ending in August 2025.

 

Relocation: Please note this Internship Opportunity is designed to be 100% Onsite, 40 hours/week and a relocation/housing stipend is not provided.

We are growing our locations and are investing more than $2 billion into establishing a new large-scale manufacturing site for biopharmaceuticals in the United States to accelerate the growth of our Bio CDMO (Contract and Development Manufacturing Organization) business. This will be the largest end-to-end cell culture CDMO provider in North America.

 

The new site will offer end-to-end solutions to our customers looking to manufacture biopharmaceuticals in the US. In addition to drug substance manufacture, it will also provide automated fill-finish and assembly, packaging, and labeling services. The new state-of-the-art facility is located in Holly Springs, North Carolina, United States.

 

Job Description

What You’ll Do

 

Under the direct supervision, support and guidance of manager: 


• Collaborates with experienced Manufacturing team members on identified project(s). Creates and delivers presentation on identified project to Site Leadership Team at the conclusion of internship. 
• Assists in value stream and business process mapping for investigations and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and continuous improvement-related items
• Observes and identifies improvement opportunities within the supported areas
• Collaborates with data visualization tools for metric tracking (e.g., cycle time, on-time completion, investigation volume by area)
• Partners with Manufacturing team members to work on right first-time process improvements for upstream and downstream operations, and  manufacturing materials management
• Provides frontline process support to various production operations
• Assists with developing process maps for non-manufacturing activities to streamline and improve effectiveness
• Performs other duties, as assigned

 

Basic Requirements

 

• Currently enrolled in an Associate’s Degree program with a Biotech or Life Sciences focus OR
• Rising Junior or above and enrolled in a Biotech, Life Sciences, or Business Management Undergraduate or Master’s Degree Program 
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 

Preferred Requirements

 

• Prior experience in Pharma/Biotech/Chemical industry 
• Prior hands-on technical experience (in a laboratory or manufacturing environment) 
• Experience with data analysis and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)
• Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or project management

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time - up to 30 minutes
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time - up to 120 minutes
  • Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to 33 pounds
  • Will work in heights greater than 4 feet
