The Role

 

The Sr. Research Chemist will work closely with the Quality Managers and supervisors to develop new products, advanced purification, new analyses, and generate test data to support various product development and production tasks.  Will also perform analytical testing on raw materials and finished products for composition and impurities, as well as record quality results.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Perform various research and development tasks in a chemical and analytical laboratory.
  • Develop methods to improve product purity and analysis, identify product stability issues, and determine ways to improve product stability.
  • Perform shelf-life testing by sampling and analyzing liquid chemicals.
  • Assist with customer requests for product quality data, customer complaint troubleshooting efforts, and prepare technical reports.
  • Determine raw material quality, interact with vendors to improve quality.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams including other departments to support various product development/formulation and production tasks, as well as product troubleshooting.
  • Assist the Quality managers with installation, design, and setup of production and R&D tools.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair analytical and laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Prepare and present technical presentations/reports for internal and development partners, vendors, and customers such as MSA (GRR), validations, and research findings.
  • Responsible for testing and approving raw materials, intermediates, and final products following company processes and procedures via use of lab equipment (eg: GC, Karl Fischer titration, ICP-MS, NVR).
  • Investigate out of specification and out of control results.
  • Review process control charts and take action as required.
  • Develop, review, and update laboratory documents and procedures.
  • Laboratory upkeep and cleaning, waste disposal, and gas maintenance.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Perform other duties, as required.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 0-2 PhD in Chemistry with experience with analysis in a laboratory. Master’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 3 - 5 years of commercial experience with analysis in a laboratory may be considered.
  • Experience with the operation, maintenance, and repair of analytical instruments, including GC and GCMS, and knowledge of identifying molecules using MS signatures.
  • Ability to generate and support the submission of customer white papers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Ability to work well with other departments, customers, and co-workers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical presentations and reports.
