Job Title: Medical Device Repair Technician

                                                                  

Job purpose

 

This position repairs a specialized cryogenic Cold Head used in super-conductive MRI systems.To be successful in this role, a candidate would have high mechanical and technical aptitude, high attention to detail, organizational skills, and exceptional troubleshooting skills.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Follow detailed procedures for tear down, cleaning, rebuild, and acceptance testing of Cold Heads.
  • Analyze in-process and final testing data to methodically troubleshoot and rebuild cold heads. 
  • Collect and analyze field performance data and failure modes.
  • Coordinate workflow activities within the lab to sustain productivity.
  • Utilize testing and measuring tools, including multimeters, calipers, and micrometers.  
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on equipment used in the repair process, including high pressure compressors, vacuum pumps, leak detectors, power supplies, thermal meters and refrigeration liquefaction systems. Utilize technical manuals, diagnostic testing and equipment manufacture’s technical support resources as needed. 
  • Schedule and coordinate test equipment calibrations and/or 3rd Party servicing. 
  • Maintain sufficient and accurate spare component and supply inventory for the Cold Head area.
  • Conduct validation testing on sourced replacement components.
  • Follow detailed procedures for cooling, ramping and quality assurance testing for new and used super-conductive MRI magnets.
  • Perform system inventory, cabling, vacuum connections, cryogen filling, ramp to full magnetic field and perform quality assurance testing and inspection.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and break fix repair maintenance on mechanical equipment including high pressure compressors, vacuum pumps, and refrigeration liquefaction systems.
  • Assist in maintenance and inventory of test gear, tools, and installation equipment.
  • Assist with the refurbishment, testing, and repair of MRI, CT, and/or ultrasound equipment, including sanitization, mechanical and electrical repair.
  • Performs mechanical troubleshooting and repair of MRI coils, which may include restoring plastic covers using adhesives and fillers and painting to address cosmetic defects.
  • Safely operate pallet jack, forklift, and overhead crane.
  • Interact with all internal and external customers to promote a productive team environment.
  • Perform other work as directed by Operations management, including repair/testing of other medical device components.
  • Comply with all applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) medical device regulatory requirements, applicable ISO 13485 standard requirements and all other applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Qualifications

 

  • Minium High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ work experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • High-pressure compressors and High-pressure gas lines; and/or
    • HVAC industry experience 
    • Automotive Engine Rebuild Specialist
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in installation, service, and supervision or maintenance of complex mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Experience in cryogen liquids, compressed gases, refrigeration, liquefaction, industrial vacuum, and compressor equipment desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate industrial mechanical and test equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical/electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated soldering proficiency.
  • LabVIEW, or other data collection software experience desired
  • Capable of operating test equipment related to job (network analyzer, oscilloscope, meter, and diagnostic testers, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (email, Excel)
  • HVAC certifications desired.

Physical requirements

 

The position requires the ability to perform the following physical demands and/or have the listed capabilities:

  • Ability to lift 70+ lbs. to shoulder level unassisted required.
  • Ability to work in a variety of work environments within warehouses, medical facilities, and work sites under construction.
  • Ability to work on ladders and work platform up to 6’ in elevation.
  • Ability to physically work in high magnetic fields of up to 3 Tesla, which could dangerously affect any implanted medical devices made of ferrous material, potentially causing serious injury and/or death.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and regulations as required.

Additional requirements

 

  • Must have good communications skills both written and oral.
  • Must be highly self-motivated, well organized, and capable of multitasking.
  • Basic PC literacy required.
  • Must be able to work overtime as assigned.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must have high aptitude towards the understanding of technical equipment and its application.
  • Must be self-motivated.

Travel

  • Occasional (< 15%) travel may be required based on business need.
