The Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies, USA Analytical Development group is seeking a skilled candidate to fill an exciting role as Scientist I located at the Bioprocess Innovation Center in Morrisville, North Carolina. 

 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in liquid chromatography and/or electrophoresis techniques supporting the analysis of protein-based therapeutics to support method optimization, qualification, and/or process development. Additionally, the candidate will have experience with demonstrated success related to technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought.

The Scientist I assists in the planning of, conducting, evaluating, and interpreting routine laboratory experiments. The individual monitors ongoing experiments and identifies and resolves or suggests alternates or solutions to complex occurrences. The individual understands and applies the use of equipment, technology, and materials associated with the area of expertise and related studies and projects. The individual takes a more active role in non-routine analytical or process development activities.

 

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for the successful candidate: 

 

  • Knowledge of chemistry and/or biochemistry and associated techniques including liquid chromatography and/or electrophoresis.
  • Independent planning, execution, and interpretation of routine laboratory experiments to support method optimization, qualification, and/or process development.
  • Able to assist in analyzing, data plotting, and reporting results of laboratory experiments.
  • Independent use and application of more complex instrumentation, computer systems, and software for data acquisition and analysis.
  • General knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Understands the basis of experimental design.
  • Understands and applies required techniques in support of projects and studies according to pre-defined plans and protocols.
  • Able to monitor ongoing experiments and identify and resolve or suggest alternates or solutions to complex occurrences.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instruments, computer technology, and data analysis required to successfully complete project work and ability to apply knowledge in complex situations.
  • Independent planning, execution, and interpretation of complex laboratory experiments.
  • Understanding of experimental design for analytical or process development.
  • Acquiring a broad scientific knowledge within the department and understanding of statistical concepts.
  • Be able to multi-task across different project activities.

 

MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

The Scientist I is continuing to develop the following problem solving skills:

  • Demonstration of practical understanding of own scientific discipline and applying knowledge in support of product development.
  • Understanding and application of equipment, technology, and materials associated with the area of expertise and related studies and projects.
  • Ability to work on multiple problems of higher complexity with limited direct supervision.
  • Implementation of new methods and processes.

Oral & Written Communication: 

  • Prepares written summaries of data for technical reports (memos, development reports, client updates)
  • As appropriate, write SOPs/STMs/procedures/instructions
  • As appropriate, writes and reviews analytical plans, protocols, or summary reports
  • As appropriate, may write SME content of technical reports (memos, development reports, etc.)
  • Collaborates and communicates across work groups and project teams.
  • Communicates with customers with support from the manager or technical lead.
  • Presents at departmental meetings to keep managers and team members apprised of the activities of the project

EDUCTION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The position requires a MS and 1+ years’ experience, BS and 4+ years’ experience or AS and 6+ years’ experience.

 

FDBU works with technical data, technology and materials that are subject to U.S. export laws and regulations. This position will require access to technical data, technology and source code that is controlled under U.S. export laws and regulations, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations at 22 C.F.R. Parts 120 – 130 and Export Administration Regulations in 15 C.F.R. Part 730 – 774, as may be amended. To conform to these laws and regulations, applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents of the U.S., protected individuals as defined by 8 USC 1324(b)(a)(3) (i.e., asylees and refugees) or otherwise eligible for an export authorization from the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Department of Commerce.
