The Role

 

The Sr. Research Chemist is responsible for the development and optimization of CMP slurry formulations to enhance performance and meet customer specifications. This role involves conducting research, designing experiments, and analyzing data to innovate and improve slurry compositions.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

 

  • Lead efforts to develop and optimize chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) slurry formulations tailored for various applications, including new types of films and substrates.
  • Create and iteratively refine slurry formulations through experimental design and analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate formulation improvements into existing applications and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of product through rigorous testing and quality assurance checks.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and drive them to completion with a focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate complex concepts effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in CMP technology, polymer chemistry, surface science, and other related fields.
  • Manage individual projects, including setting goals, timelines, and milestones.
  • Stay highly organized and handle multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
  • Learn quickly and maintain readiness for new challenges in slurry formulation.
  • Work independently in the lab environment and direct technicians to support project needs.

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Minimum Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Surface Chemistry, Materials Science or Colloidal Science is required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years prior research and development and/or project management experience in the semiconductor industry is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience designing and optimizing formulations is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor wafer processing, particularly chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP).
  • Expertise in polymer synthesis, characterization, and structure-property relationships.
  • Proficiency in surface and thin film characterization techniques, including XPS, SEM, AFM, and ellipsometry.
  • Familiarity with colloidal science principles and techniques for the stabilization, characterization, and manipulation of colloidal suspensions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and coordinate cross-functional teams effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Proficient in data analysis and interpretation, capable of making decisions with incomplete information.
  • Willingness to stay updated with advancements in CMP technology, polymer chemistry, surface science, and colloidal science through self-learning and participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Adaptability to changing project requirements, quick learning of new techniques or technologies, and thriving in a dynamic and fast paced research environment.
  • Highly self-motivated, creative individual with a passion for research and development leading to high-impact practical applications products for the semiconductor industry.
  • Fast learning capability for the new challenges
  • Excellent communication, data collection, time management and organizational skills required.
  • Proficiency in office software such as MS Excel, Word, PPT and Outlook required.
  • Must be highly organized and have ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while also being able to work independently and provide leadership when necessary.
  • Job may require standing and working in the lab for substantial parts of some days.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position that requires candidates to successfully pass a post-offer drug screening prior to employment. One of the essential job functions is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
