Overview

The Facilities Engineer II will be responsible for assisting with troubleshooting facility and utility systems on an as needed basis which includes but is not limited to: chillers, air handler units (AHUs), WFI loops, clean steam generators, boilers, air compressors, process waste, etc. Provide investigation, engineering, and change control support for all systems including investigation of deviations of facility and utility systems and the determination of the root cause, along with the development of corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. In addition to the basic qualifications listed below, he/she shall possess the skills required to successfully develop and execute project tasks and deliverables, be a collaborative team player, handle 4-5 small projects at a time, establish and manage priorities, and have a strong drive to deliver quality projects. Required engineering capabilities include the ability to develop and implement engineering and design concepts for HVAC, plant steam / condensate, and process utilities. The candidate shall also have a thorough understanding of the development of design documents and deliverables through the conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and construction phases of a project (P&lDs, distribution plans, specifications, etc.).

 

Project sizes will vary and consist primarily of clean utility, plant utility and HVAC projects. The ideal candidate will have some previous facility experience in a pharmaceutical or similar GMP/GxP environment, and must have a technical understanding and knowledge of various high purity water and HVAC systems within a GMP/GxP environment, plant utilities design and troubleshooting, and all associated piping, pumping, heat transfer and distribution that make up these systems. Familiarity with Process Gases, (Compressed Air, C02, N2, and 02), and technical knowledge of building automation systems (BAS/BMS/DCS) will also be an advantage.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical engineering support for GMP/GxP utilities.
  • Be prepared to give recommendations on facility and utility equipment purchases.
  • Performing temperature / humidity control / utility load calculations.
  • Basic understanding of building management system (BMS) control philosophies, components, and sequence of operations.
  • Conducts performance tests, collecting and analyzing operating data, and developing operational plans and equipment recommendations to optimize performance.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&lDs. Ability to update as required for change control and accuracy.
  • Support and adhere to site safety goals, procedures, requirements, and initiatives.
  • Developing Conceptual and Basis of Design level design approaches inclusive of high-level scope and cost estimations to be used for capital and expense project funding.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations. Review equipment drawings for conformance to site and project specifications.
  • Edit, review and approve project drawings.
  • Develop scopes and sketches for various projects.
  • Maintain a detailed schedule of all project tasks.
  • Developing user requirement specifications as needed.
  • Developing P&lD ls, equipment plans, plant / process utility distribution plans, and system details.
  • Performing construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction of mechanical / utilities scope is executed per the intent of the design, and assisting in start-up of systems when required.

 

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. or M.S. Degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering preferred) with 3+ years relevant experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, or petrochemical industries.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, design, and specification of clean room HVAC, plant utility, high purity water, and steam systems.
