Summary: 

 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for planning and executing technical projects consisting of the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of components involving both mechanical and electro-mechanical devices culminating in high performance, innovative transducers. Conduct independent technical investigations utilizing a wide variety of mechanical engineering principles in the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications and requirements. Prepare design specifications, analyses and recommendations for presentation and approval. Lead and/or collaborate with other groups/team members to meet schedule & project demands.

 

The position requires strong technical aptitude including but not limited to DFX methodologies, low to mid volume mfg. of intricate electro-acoustic devices, materials and finishes, thermal efficiency, tooling/jig/fixture design and implementation, test and inspection techniques. The successful candidate will draw upon industry experience to provide technical guidance, perform physical and statistical analysis, review component and product design spec’s, analyze acoustic performance and feedback data into both mechanical and tooling advancements for measurable benefits realized both within Engineering as well as on the manufacturing floor.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop NPI packaging methods, such as inj. molded housings, lensing design and methodology for various transducers, as well as supporting tooling jigs and fixtures for repeatable results. Lamination tooling and stack assembly tooling to support current and new architectures.
  • Become a key resource in configuration management and control of NPI and Sustaining projects using Agile and develop strategies for optimum implementation.
  • Improving the thermal efficiency of new and/or existing transducers.
  • Tracking daily progress of samples/experiments and providing accurate updates and creating/maintaining a central spreadsheet. Producing reports and assessments of tooling and/or fixture related improvements to yields and results in production and/or prototype environments.
  • Maintaining the lab efficiency, test equipment and supplies in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Responsible and accountable for carrying out the requirements of the company's quality system.
  • Interact with members of the Ultrasound Systems engineering or other associated groups as necessary for transducer related issues.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • B.S. Mechanical engineering, M.S. or PhD in related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Seven or more years of product development experience, with at least five years designing electro-mechanical devices or a similar type FDA regulated medical device strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical tolerance analysis and Designed Experiment Techniques.
  • Design of assemblies, including surface modeling, of injection molded parts (using internal or external contract design resources) on at least two electronics products that successfully reached production.
  • Expert know-how with SolidWorks.
  • High level thermal modeling experience, such as COSMOS or other FEA SW.
  • Experience in thermal management of compact, highly integrated devices a plus

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, small team environment under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, ability to drive design improvements.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs with or without accommodations.
  • Domestic and limited international travel required, < 15%.

 

Salary and Benefits:

  • $97,000 - $130,000 depending on experience + variable bonus opportunity
