    Develops and prepares multi-dimensional layouts and documents for MEMS-based devices.  MEMS devices may include product prototypes, feasibility test platforms, and derivative printhead products.  Work with design engineers to complete designs and ensure related geometries comply with established MEMS design rules and best practices. Develop computer design rule checks. Responsible for design verifications, document control and storage processes. Scope of activities will range from initial concept through volume production, working both independently and with a variety of groups.


    KNOWLEDGE: Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues. 

    JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.

    SUPERVISION: Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

    EXPERIENCE: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.




    • Displays full competency in the use of CAD tools (AutoCAD, Solidworks) to generate designs and documentation.
    • Work with MEMS Fab personnel to reconcile the design against the final mask layout to ensure finished geometries are representative.
    • Establish and maintain a best practices or design rules library.
    • Use Excel or other analysis software to organize data and draw conclusions.
    • Manage documentation and be the liaison between the design team and MEMS fabrication team.
    • Work with MEMS design team to plan, schedule work and negotiate any necessary layout tradeoffs as needed
    • Routinely work on multiple concurrent projects.

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent years of experience.
    • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in custom silicon layouts.
    • Ability to analyze needs and product requirements to create a design.
    • Experience in bringing products through the design cycle, including generation of design, prototyping, debug and manufacturing.
    • Solid understanding of CAD packages, AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
    • Good analytical abilities, including high level math, statistics and computer aided analysis.
    • Complex problem-solving skills utilizing science and engineering education to arrive at practical solutions.
    • Critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to the problem
    • Ability to work cooperatively with others on a regular basis.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Good documentation skills.
    • Self-motivated, good planning skills, detail oriented.
    • Ability to participate, lead, mentor in a team environment
    • Ability to work individually as well as interact with vendors, customers, and other engineers and ability to work across several functional departments
    • Experience MEMS fabrication. 


    • Advanced degree.
    • Experience with PDMWorks.
