    POSITION SUMMARY:

     

    The Manufacturing Engineer Intern fulfills a support role to Manufacturing Engineering Team responsible for process in the manufacture of precision inkjet print heads and peripheral equipment.

     

    Helps in the development, Implementation and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub‑assemblies and final assemblies. Evaluates and improves manufacturing processes by designing and conducting assessments; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment engineers; soliciting observations from technicians. Performs troubleshooting and physical analysis to understand the root cause of product failure. Makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines which can improve yield, throughput and/or reduce cost. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new subassemblies. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

     

    • Assists in providing direct production line support and hands on problem solving
    • Engineering and Material Review Board coordination and support
    • Perform all facets of Engineering documentation
    • Ergonomics/Safety support
    • Communication at all levels
    • Support introduction of new products into Manufacturing
    • Drive Continuous Improvement of Assembly processes through LEAN methods, root cause solutions of problems, and adoption of best practices
    • Work closely with Engineering to introduce New Manufacturing Technologies to Production.
    • Support Introduction of New Products into Manufacturing.
    • Identify opportunities to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
    • Determine root causes of failures using failure analysis, statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
    • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
    • Supports technologists, or other engineers.
    • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials, or processes.
    • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
    • Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
    • Install, or troubleshoot manufacturing equipment

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    REQUIRED:

    • Associate’s degree in related field or or working toward a Bachalor’s Degree
    • Experience with manual and automated assembly processes
    • Working knowledge of safety and ergonomic practices
    • Experience in clean room protocol.
    • Strong MS Word and MS Excel skills.
    • Excellent communication skills required to communicate with Production resources, peers and Management
    • Well versed in lean concepts
    • Experience in area of tool design
    • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, in order to effectively present information to co-workers, customers and management.
    • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as statistical analysis, frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. 
    • DESIRED:

    • Inkjet experience is preferred
    • Experience with structured problem solving methodologies (Cp/CpK, Gage R&R, FMEA, DOE)
    • 3D CAD Experience, Autocad or Solidworks
    • Working knowledge in Visio, MS Project, Visual Basic programmingPHYSICAL DEMANDS:
