Job Title: Senior DICOM Software Engineer

 

Job purpose

 

The main responsibilities for this position will be to architect, design and develop the DICOM subsystem in the Synapse VNA product. This includes rearchitecting, when appropriate, to improve functionality and performance. Additionally, the role will be responsible for adding new features, debugging customer issues and contributing as a team to the overall architecture, design and implementation of the product.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Architect, design, develop and test/troubleshoot the DICOM subsystem.
  • Provide leadership for the system architecture, design and implementation.
  • Understand requirements both technically and from a user’s perspective.
  • Provide product and development process improvements at a technical level.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews.
  • Assist Service in Troubleshooting and debugging multifaceted DICOM issues.
  • Performance optimization.
  • Comply with all applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) medical device regulatory requirements, applicable ISO 13485 standard requirements and all other applicable laws, regulations and standards.

Qualifications 

  • Required:
    • BS in computer engineering or related field.
    • 10 years of experience in software development.
    • Experience developing medical imaging solutions.
    • Deep working knowledge and debugging skills of operating systems, memory management, networking and run time environments.
    • In depth knowledge of the DICOM protocol and data structures.
    • Knowledge of and debug experience with DICOM transaction protocols.
    • Hands on experience with Virtual Machines and load balancers.
    • Ability to grasp and quickly become productive in an existing design.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Team player with demonstrated initiative.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Desired:
    • MS in computer engineering.
    • Working knowledge of DICOM pixel structure and transformations.
    • Working knowledge of image compression and decompression technologies.
    • Hands on experience with software build and deployment solutions.
    • Exceptional debug debugging skills at the DICOM transaction layer.
    • Experience with several programming languages including but not limited to: Java, Groovy, JavaScript, and C++.
    • SQL scripting experience.

Physical requirements: 

 

The position requires the ability to perform the following physical demands and/or have the listed capabilities.

  • The ability to sit up 75-100% of applicable work time.
  • The ability to use your hands and fingers to feel and manipulate items, including keyboards, up to 100% of applicable work time.
  • The ability to stand, talk, and hear for 75% of applicable work time.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to ten pounds up to 20% of applicable work time.
  • Close Vision: The ability to see clearly at twenty inches or less.

Travel: 

  • Occasional (up to 10%) travel may be required based on business need.
