We seek an intern who is actively enrolled as a full time student pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, at a four-year university.  This SUMMER 2017 intern will work directly with the Mechanical Engineering team to design and implement components that will be a part of larger applications that control manufacturing and testing devices that contain one or more of the following: motors, servos, cameras, pumps, valves, scales, temperature sensing equipment, and interfaces to electronic monitoring devices. 

You will be provided with a fantastic opportunity to gain relevant mechanical engineering experiences by working directly with multiple departments (software, hardware, mechanical, electrical) in a team environment to provide support to mission-critical manufacturing systems.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Build working prototypes and test to determine sensitivity to critical parameters
  • Implementation of final designs
  • Conduct trials to confirm effectiveness
  • Design electromechanical parts using SolidWorks.
  • Assist in engineering documentation process.
  • Procure parts necessary for electromechanical assemblies.
  • Assemble and troubleshoot electromechanical assemblies.
  • Work with and support multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, and software engineers).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED: 

  • Level of Junior or above and in good standing at a four-year university enrolled as a full time student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to create and modify 3D CAD designs using SolidWorks
  • Ability to create dimensioned drawings in Solidworks
  • Good understanding of geometric tolerances
  • Strong working knowledge of standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Previous experience in a professional engineering environment
  • Proven problem identification and troubleshooting abilities
  • Hands-on approach to assembling fixtures, recording test data, and analyzing results
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, in order to effectively present information to peers, customers and management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid understanding of physics
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) approach
