Job Purpose:


The Buyer will support and implement sourcing strategies to achieve lowest total costs and highest quality improvement. The Buyer will support the core business and align with key internal customers.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Fulfills direct and indirect material requirements for assigned supplier base of products and services on time in accordance with material planning and purchasing procedures.
  • Negotiates and implements lower purchasing prices on required supplier products and services.
  • Manages, implements, and maintains professional business relationships with FMSU suppliers that enhance purchasing quality, cost savings, and services.
  • Manages and reports the performance of existing suppliers in accordance with supplier management procedure.
  • Manages and maintains supplier quality in accordance with supplier management procedure.
  • Manages the introduction of new supplier products and services in accordance with the commercial component release and project management procedures.
  • Maintain and improve where possible daily tiered structure for the procurement process. Additionally strengthen & document escalation process.
  • Effective and timely communication with all groups within the organization or to external customers.
  • Submits timely reports as requested by Manager or vendors, including FTYO cost savings reporting.
  • Keeps current on all business activities (product, pricing, mergers, buyouts, etc.) for assigned supplier base. Monitors supplier product pipeline changes managing supplier product end of life issues and the rollout of new supplier components. Coordinates the introduction of new supplier components with the Product Specialist. Ensures no excess inventory or material shortages result from supplier product offering changes.
  • Assists Marketing and Engineering by contracting with suppliers for evaluation products in support of development of new FMSU products, as required.
  • Maintain suggested inventory levels by leveraging the system for efficient procurement planning activities including using SAP MRP application.
  • Participates in assigned projects as a team player or project leader.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minumim three years of experience in Procurement and Strategic Sourcing.
  • Leadership experience in Supply Management/Sourcing/Procurement.
  • Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc).
  • Experience with SAP is highly preferred.
  • Successful use of decision-making and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong preference for experience with third party contracts.
  • Adherence to FMSU's corporate values. 

Physical Requirements:


  • The position requires the ability to perform the following physical demands and/or have the listed capabilities.
  • The ability to sit up 75-100% of applicable work time.
  • The ability to use your hands and fingers to feel and manipulate items, including keyboards, up to 100% of applicable work time.
  • The ability to stand, talk, and hear for 75% of applicable work time.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to ten pounds up to 20% of applicable work time.
  • Close Vision: The ability to see clearly at twenty inches or less.



Occasional travel may be required based on business need.
