The Vice President of PD provides strong leadership to the major process development departments, fostering an environment where innovation and efficiency can both thrive, setting annual goals and objectives and long range planning.  The VP, PD creates high-level business strategy for the, oversees the management of resources and coordinates activities across multiple departments to achieve business objective and revenue goals.  They will serve as the strategic leader for the site and advocates for the process development and Innovation departments with upper management and external parties.

  • Responsible for setting annual goals and objectives and long range planning of the business unit
  • Ensures departmental goals and project milestones of the research development and innovation departments are achieved
  • Responsible for budget and acquisition of capital equipment of the business unit
  • Instrumental in the development and planning stages of uncharted and complex research goals
  • Works with FDB’s CSO to define innovation and collaborative projects  to be executed and managed at FDBU
  • New business development through the identification and application of technologies, partnerships or collaborations
  • Drive Innovation programs to maintain a culture of innovation and creativity with PD and create opportunities to offer leading edge technologies
  • Support sales and marketing activities to attract, secure and retain client programs
  • Responsible for providing on-going coaching and feedback and conducting performance reviews for direct reports
  • Reviews and calibrates performance and promotion recommendations for the business unit to ensure consistency and equity
  • Enhance and maintain a reputation for excellence
  • Participation in client Joint Steering Committee meetings, a high level program review meeting.  
  • Resolves conflicts and removes obstacles that stand in the way of accomplishing project goals and objectives
  • Represent the business unit on the Site Leadership Team
  • Delivery of customer programs to schedule and budget

  • This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer


  • This position supports the research and development and manufacturing organizations with their associated revenue and profit plans as they relate to the on-time delivery of analytical and process development milestones
  • The individual has a direct impact on overall company performance; impact is achieved primarily by directing multiple departments



This position typically requires a degree (preferably in a bioscience or chemical engineering) and 10+ years’ experience in a biomanufacturing environment including at least 3 years in a departmental leadership role (or higher site management).


The individual should have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:

  • Experience with supervising and handling the administrative and managerial duties of a group of scientists, including performance management and goal setting
  • Experience in managing project timelines and resources to accomplish project milestones
  • Experience in resolving conflicts and removing obstacles that stand in the way of accomplishing project goals and objectives
  • Track record of technical development and mentoring of staff
  • Involvement in setting the scientific direction of the company’s development and innovation efforts
  • Recognition and leveraging of innovative opportunities within a project
  • Superior oral communication skills, able to communicate with global customers, experienced in supporting sales & marketing activities to secure new business for the company
